Well, this is a first, due to predictions for a frightening Halloween weather forecast, trick or treating all over Indiana is being postponed by police chiefs and public officials until Friday, Nov. 1st. As a mother of three, I do appreciate not having to chase my brood through treacherous wind gusts and torrential downpours, but it is slightly amusing. Do we not all remember running through neighborhoods as kids in all kinds of weather?!
Nonetheless, I’m looking on the bright side. Now we have time for all the other fun Halloween things us ADHD folks have been postponing. So take the extra day to have some hands on fun with your family. If your kids are anything like mine, they will appreciate an activity to keep their minds off not trick or treating for an extra day.
- If you haven’t carved a pumpkin yet… give it a try. I heard a fun idea to scoop one out and then drill holes in it to create a disco ball effect.
- Save the pumpkin seeds. It’s so easy to just toss them out, but a little olive oil, salt, and bake time in the oven makes a great treat. Your kids will love the activity – and it will give them something to do while the storm rages outside.
- Try building a real fire together and playing a game. We play “The Blindfold Game” when we are bored. It’s like Hide and Seek but the person who is IT is blindfolded (this works best when this is a parent to get all the kids working together). The kids all hide somewhere in the house. The person blindfolded is the only one who can talk or make noise. We enjoy trying to make the kids laugh when we are IT… it’s usually the first one that busts out that gets discovered. Works with older kids too – who wouldn’t like watching their mom or dad walk around with their arms out bumping into walls?
So Happy Halloween! The high fructose corn syrup crash will have to wait until Saturday….Hey… maybe it wasn’t the Chief of Police or city officials that postponed Halloween…maybe it was the TEACHERS!
